Which children should not get the mumps vaccine?
-
Stacy Wiegman answered:Your child should not get the mumps vaccine if he has been treated with radiation or drugs for cancer. The vaccine is not recommended for children with HIV/AIDS. The vaccine should not be given to children who have been treated with drugs such as steroids for other immune system conditions. If your child has ever had a severe reaction to the vaccine, he should not get another dose. Talk with your child's doctor about options to prevent mumps.
However, in the US mumps vaccine is available only in two combination products: one with measles and rubella and the other with measles, rubella and varicella vaccines.
