You can find inspiration for setting health goals by establishing what your emotional investment is in the goal.  Anchoring a goal to an emotional purpose will help not only support your goals but also provide motivation as you take actions to move forward with them.  You can also look for inspiration in setting health goals from those around you.  Look to your support system and changes they have made, how their lives have been impacted, the benefits they obtained, and the process by which they used to establish the goals.  Modeling after successful others will help with your inspiration, accountability, and motivation.

You may know someone who has osteoporosis or cancer and that can inspire you to take better care of yourself. You may want to lose weight before your high school reunion. These are good reasons, but they may not help you stick to your program. You don't have cancer, so you might slip up now and then, skip your workouts, grab "just one" cookie that leads to half dozen. You might easily give up on getting back the youthful figure you had in high school, too, because it's just too much work. The best inspiration comes from within. Ask yourself why you want to live a healthier lifestyle or why you want to lose weight. Keep asking why until you get to the core reason. That will help you more than anything to stick to your goals and succeed. It's just as hard work as preparing for that reunion but it means much, much more. It may be the desire to have more energy to play with your children, or to be able to run a 5K, or to lower your blood pressure. All of that comes from within. It's personal. It's empowering. I hope this helps.

I find there are multiple ways to find inspiration, but the one that I believe resonates the highest frequency is from within. I recommend to all my clients to sit quietly for 10 minutes every Sunday with a pen and a piece of paper.  Take 10 deep breaths and count from 1-5 on the inhale and from 5-1 on the exhale. Then to just let your mind go to daydream and come up with 5 healthy goals for yourself for the coming week. Then to transfer them onto a post it note and put it on your bathroom mirror.  Every day read it out loud 5 x, in a row, every time you are in the bathroom. Then smile at yourself in the mirror and say to yourself. "I have an abundance of energy and I am perfectly healthy to accomplish all of my dreams."  I find consistency is the key and the healthier you are on a daily basis, the more of a positive impact you have on the ones you touch each and every day.
