You should be able to resume many of your regular activities within just a few weeks of anterior cervical discectomy and fusion (ACDF) surgery. However, don't do any strenuous physical activity until your bone fusion heals solid. This can take from two to six months. Your doctor will advise you when it is safe for you to resume all activities. He or she will determine this by looking at x-rays of your spinal fusion to see whether the bone has healed solid.

    • When you're ready, start taking short walks every day. The right kind of movement can help you heal.
    • Talk with your doctor about when you can resume activities, including driving and sex.
