What does "violence against women" include?

In the broadest sense, violence against women is any assault on a woman's body, physical integrity, or freedom of movement by individual acts and societal oppression. It includes battering, rape, sexual and physical abuse of young girls, verbal and emotional abuse, murder by a partner or husband, "honor" killings by a family member (murder for perceived sexual activity that "dishonors" the family), forced sterilization, female genital cutting, stalking, sexual coercion in the workplace, getting women and girls "ready" for prostitution through rape and psychological manipulation, pornography that sexualizes violence and promotes violent sex, and trafficking of women and girls.
