Unfortunately, since there is no cure for scleroderma, treatments are designed to mitigate symptoms and limit damage to organs. Therefore, treatments are tailored to each patient like a handmade suit.

Blood pressure medications that dilate blood vessels and drugs that suppress the immune system are common to treat symptoms and reduce complications.

Cosmetic surgery and light therapy may also help. Occupational or physical therapy can help relieve pain and increase mobility. For the GI symptoms, medications for diarrhea, constipation, acid reflux, and heartburn are available. Eating small meals (but not late at night), avoiding flamers (trigger foods), and not reclining immediately after meals can also help relieve symptoms.

Other lifestyle remedies include staying active, eating a diet without the five food felons, reducing stress, and protecting your skin from the cold and sun are essential to coping with this disease. Also nip the butts in the butt. Smoking can cause some serious vessel damage (among other things), so don’t let it exacerbate your scleroderma.

  3. There is no known cure for scleroderma, but there are several treatment options that may help alleviate its symptoms. Medications may help prevent organ damage and ease joint pain. Laser surgery and light therapy may help improve the appearance of skin that's affected by scleroderma. Physical therapy may help reduce stiffness and improve mobility, but it's impossible to completely prevent joints from freezing. For advanced cases, surgery may be an option for organs damaged by the disease. If the esophagus has been narrowed by scar tissue, it can be surgically widened. Raynaud's syndrome, which is sometimes a symptom of scleroderma, can cause gangrene, which may need to be treated with finger amputation.
