Patients who have early-stage follicular lymphoma may be treated with low-dose involved field radiation therapy (IFRT) with a small risk of side effects. The treatment is generally delivered over three to four weeks, to a dose of 30-36 gray (Gy). This group of patients has a median survival from the time of diagnosis of almost 15 years in some reports, although many will have their lymphoma return in other sites of the body. The exception to this treatment guideline is patients with high-grade follicular large-cell lymphomas. They should generally be treated with combination chemotherapy followed by IFRT for the best chance of cure.
