Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of the brain is the standard imaging test to evaluate patients suspected of having brain cancer. Computed tomography (CT) of the brain with contrast may be performed in patients who are unable to have an MRI. Biopsy by a neurosurgeon (surgical specialist for diseases of the brain and spine) may be performed to ensure the cancer type and to differentiate between metastatic and primary brain tumors.
