Early on in posterior tibial tendon dysfunction, you'll feel pain along the inner side of the ankle and arch of your foot. Since the tendon supports the arch, you may develop a flat foot that, over time, may become rigid. Eventually the pain may extend to the outer side of your foot and ankle, and arthritis may develop.
Symptoms of posterior tibial tendon dysfunction include:
- Pain and weakness in the tendon that runs along the inner side of the ankle
- Pain in the arch
- Possible development of flat feet (flexible at first)
- Additional symptoms developing over time, including pain on the outer side of the foot or ankle, rigid flat feet, or impaired walking
