What is the survival rate for children born with heart defects?
-
SCAI answered:Today, as a result of tremendous advances in the diagnosis and treatment of heart defects, more than 95 out of 100 children born with a heart defect survive. Once treated, many of these children are able to live normal lives and embrace life like other children. Due to better surgical and medical treatments, death rates for congenital heart defects declined more than 30 percent from 1994 to 2004, according to the American Heart Association.
