What are the risks of being on a renal failure diet?

Cathy Silva answered:The renal diet is designed to compensate for the lack of kidney function. The risk of not following a renal diet is greater than any risk of being on a renal diet. Certain fruits and vegetables are restricted on a renal diet, but it is still possible to eat a rainbow of low potassium fruits and vegetables (apples, grapes, carrots, cauliflower, green beans). Protein foods are limited if you are not on dialysis. The amount of protein is individualized. If someone is not sure about how much protein to eat, they may eat too little protein, causing muscle breakdown.
