    If either type 1 or 2 diabetes is not well controlled, your child may be at risk of developing a range of other health complications as he or she grows older. Uncontrolled blood glucose levels can lead to heart attacks, strokes, blindness, kidney failure, gum disease, blood vessel disease (that may require an amputation), nerve damage, and impotence in men.
