Folic acid is considered an essential nutrient for everyone. As a supplement, possible risks are low. But some problems may occur. High levels may lead to seizures in those taking anticonvulsant drugs. If you take these medications, talk with your doctor. If too much folic acid is taken, vitamin B12 deficiencies can occur. Natural folate isn’t associated with any health risks.
