What is the recovery for a lower body lift like?

Dr. Chad Gordon of Johns Hopkins Medicine answered:You will have some discomfort, however, this is expected and typically easily controlled with pain medications. Discomfort will dissipate over a week or two after the surgery. Your doctor will prescribe pain medication for you to take after you return home. You will also need to wear a compression garment for a few weeks after the surgery, and your plastic surgeon may recommend that you follow a special diet.
You will need to take at least two weeks off of work and will have to restrict normal activity for 4-6 weeks. You will have to wait approximately 6-8 weeks before you can resume exercise. The bruising will begin to disappear in a few weeks and the swelling should subside within a few months. While the scars will be permanent, they will fade in about 12 months and can be hidden by clothing.

Dr. Stuart Linder answered:The recovery time for a complete lower body lift ranges between 6-8 weeks. During the immediate post-operative period, no lifting is allowed whatsoever. This is to prevent tearing of the internal muscle repair which could lead to massive bleeding. Our patients are instructed to refrain from walking completely erect for 2-3 weeks. The drainage tubes are left intact for 7-10 days until there is less than 24cc of serosanguinous fluid per tube per day. Sutures remain in place for up to 3 weeks. An abdominal binder is placed for 2 months.
