The important thing when choosing an obstetrician is that the patient feels comfortable with her doctor. If the patient doesn't feel comfortable with her doctor, then it's a disservice to the patient.

When a patient is interviewing a potential doctor, it's important that she ask questions about how the practice runs, how many doctors there are, what kind of hours they have, whether or not they have evening hours. It's important for her to know what their call schedule is like, if she anticipates that her doctor will be there to deliver her, because different practices work in different ways. It's good for the patient and doctor to discuss those things at the first visit, so that the patient's expectations are met and she gets the care that she deserves.
