A rubber "dental dam" will be placed around your tooth to keep it clean. A small drill will be used to open a passage in the top of your tooth. Small files and specialized instruments will be used to scrape out the infected or decaying pulp. The tooth will now be hollowed out and you may be sent home to let it drain. After the tooth is comfortable, the dentist will isolate the tooth to stop anything from being swallowed. Access to the canal of the root will be made using a drill. The contents of the pulp will be removed and disinfected using chemicals and files. Once the canal has been disinfected, a filling will be placed in the canal space. Finally the access hole will be sealed and the tooth will be ready for a final restoration.
