There are different levels of trauma care. Depending on the trauma center's capabilities, trauma centers treat all manners of trauma. These include people who have been involved in motor vehicle accidents, motorcycle accidents, gunshot wounds, blunt trauma, abuse, falls, work injuries, and any other situation which can injure a person. Paramedics and Emergency medical technicians, have certain criteria to make the decision of who is a trauma and who is not. Examples of these are age, long-bone injuries (femur or thigh bone) falls from certain heights, and certain vital sign parameters (low blood pressure, high pulse rate, breathing rates) and of course, obvious injury, bleeding, and the medics' own instincts.
