    Dr. Mehmet Oz answered:
The major problem caused by vitiligo is loss of skin pigment. People with vitiligo have one or more patches of skin that has lost its natural color. The affected skin may become lighter than its normal shade or turn completely white. Vitiligo can occur on any skin. It can even turn hair white. Vitiligo causes no other major symptoms.

However, research shows that many people with vitiligo are deficient in folic acid, vitamin B12, vitamin C, copper and zinc.
