What prenatal care do I need during week 4 of pregnancy?
-
Week 4 of pregnancy may be the first time you are able to find out you are pregnant. At this point, it is a good idea to ask your doctor about whether it is safe to continue taking prescription and over-the-counter medications. You should also start taking a prenatal vitamin that contains sufficient folic acid and iron. Also, make sure you are eating a nutritious diet, getting plenty of exercise, and avoiding caffeine, alcohol, and tobacco. You won't need to see your doctor quite yet, but schedule your first prenatal appointment at this time.

Dr. Deborah Raines of Honor Society of Nursing (STTI) answered:At 4 weeks, the woman may have a positive home pregnancy test, be missing a period or be beginning to experience early symptoms of pregnancy. Implantation has occurred and the woman may be experiencing some vaginal bleeding or cramping. Hormones are rushing through the woman’s system and she may begin to experience nausea or morning sickness. These finding may lead the woman to her first prenatal visit. The first prenatal visit involves a comprehensive history and physical examination as the health care provider is evaluating the woman’s current state of health, identifying any pre-existing conditions or risk factors that may impact the pregnancy. Teaching during this visit is focused on strategies to cope with the discomforts of early pregnancy and sign of potential complications, especially miscarriage, that need to be reported to the health care provider.
