What is the nutritional value of avocados?
-
Dr. Michael T Murray answered:Avocados are an excellent source of monounsaturated fatty acids, as well as potassium, vitamin E, B vitamins, and fiber. In fact, one avocado has the potassium content of two to three bananas. Of course, an avocado also has about three times the calories of a banana. A 31/2-oz (100 g) serving or about half an avocado provides 160 calories, 2.0 g of protein, 14.7 g of fat, 8.5 g of carbohydrate, and 6.7 g of fiber. The fat content contains 9.8 g of health-promoting monounsaturated fats, 2.8 g of polyunsaturated fats, and only 2.1 g of saturated fats. As for minerals, this serving provides 485 mg of potassium.
