One of the benefits of an elliptical is that it can address many muscle groups depending on the design of the machine. The most popular is one that has an upper-body attachment which allows you to use both the lower and upper body during the workout at the same time. Because it is also a push-pull motion, you can work the biceps and back while pulling, the chest and triceps while pushing, and the shoulders during both motions. At the same time, your core, hips, arms, and legs are working to complete the range of motion. Some ellipticals even add an incline motion to increase the intensity on the quads and glutes.  It is important to remember that just because these muscle groups are moving you will still need increase your intensity to truly get the overload necessary for the muscles to get the full benefits.
