Medications are the most common way health care providers treat bicuspid aortic valve disease (an abnormality of the aortic valve).

Beta-blockers are the most prescribed medication because they help control blood pressure and slow the enlargement of the aorta, thereby reducing the risk of aortic tears. Calcium channel blockers are prescribed to control blood pressure, heart rate and rhythm disturbances. Angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors and angiotensin receptor blockers (ARBs) may also be prescribed to control blood pressure, improve symptoms, enhance heart muscle function and protect the aorta against progressive enlargement. Statins are a class of medications that treat abnormalities in your cholesterol panel.
