    Sickle-cell disease can cause many medical problems. The more serious problems are cardiac related, such as acute chest syndrome, heart attacks, and high blood pressure but also things like high blood pressure in the lungs, serious infections, and strokes. Overall, survival is also shorter than the general population. These are in addition to the symptoms of sickle-cell disease, which can include "pain crisis," abdominal pain, bone pain, shortness of breath, delayed growth in children, fatigue, fever, and/or chest pain.
