    Most often you should eat:

    • Fish: trout, halibut, salmon, cod, water-packed tuna or salmon, shellfish
    • Poultry: skinless white meat
    • Lean beef: round, flank, sirloin, extra-lean ground
    • Lean pork: sirloin, tenderloin, loin chops
    • Leg of lamb, well-trimmed
    • Beans and lentils
    • Egg whites

    Occasionally you may eat:

    • Dark meat poultry and lightly marbled beef or pork
    • Peanut butter
    • Eggs
    • Unsalted nuts: walnuts, pecans, almonds, peanuts, Brazil nuts
    • Unsalted seeds: pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds

    Avoid or eat sparingly:

    • Fried meats
    • Pastrami
    • Sausage and bacon
    • Ham, cold cuts, and hot dogs
    • Pickled meats
