    Magnesium gluconate is an over-the-counter (OTC) drug that restores low levels of magnesium in the body. Gastrointestinal disorders, kidney diseases, prolonged vomiting or diarrhea and certain drugs may cause a drop in magnesium levels. Magnesium gluconate restores these levels in the blood. Magnesium gluconate is sold under the brand names Mag-G, Magtrate and Magonate.
