A long-term care insurance policy helps cover the costs of long-term medical care. It may cover only nursing home care, only in-home care, or care offered in a variety of settings, including a nursing home, assisted-living facility, adult day care center, or at home. Some extensive -- and probably expensive -- policies even pay for home modifications. According to Consumer Reports, a good policy will cover nursing home, assisted-living, hospice, and home care, including so-called custodial care, which might include supervision and assistance with daily living activities, such as dressing or bathing.
