  1. If you have HIV, you should learn to live a healthier lifestyle. Eat healthy, fresh food. Stop smoking. Try to get regular sleep and exercise. Since your immune system is compromised, you should always wash your hands and use hand sanitizers. Take precautions when handling pets or pet waste. Seek counseling and build a support team of family members and friends. Try to practice stress relief techniques such as yoga or meditation. Someone with HIV should try to avoid sex with any HIV negative partners. If you are in a committed relationship, practice safe sex. Tell any new partners that you are HIV positive. Do not share needles or razors or toothbrushes. If you are female, be aware that you can pass the virus to your child if you get pregnant.

    Regular checkups with your doctor are important and so is compliance with taking medications if prescribed. Eating a healthy, well-balanced diet and getting regular exercise and plenty of sleep are important. Practice safe sex with condoms. Avoiding excessive alcohol use, illicit drugs and smoking are also important factors.
