Abdominal hernias are either complicated or uncomplicated. Uncomplicated hernias are reducible, meaning the loop of intestine that is bulging through the abdomen wall can be massaged back into place. Uncomplicated hernia will need surgery at some point to repair the opening in the abdominal wall. However, emergency surgery is not performed unless the hernia develops complications of incarceration and strangulation.
