Stacy Wiegman answered:The prescription drug Tricor (fenofibrate) is what is commonly known as a cholesterol-lowering drug. Tricor works to lower triglycerides and total cholesterol. It lowers LDL, which is the bad cholesterol, and increases HDL, which is the good cholesterol. It comes in tablets of 48 mgs or 145 mgs of fenofibrate.
Tricor is used along with dietary measures, which include less saturated fats and exercise. Obesity, alcohol, diabetes, and some thyroid conditions, as well as a number of drugs can increase triglyceride levels, so your doctor will take a medical history before prescribing Tricor. Tricor increases the natural enzyme that helps to break down fats in the blood and is used to treat people with high levels of cholesterol or triglycerides. Lowering your bad cholesterol can help reduce the chance of heart attack or strokes.
