This happens when the testicle twists on its own blood supply, and it hurts like the dickens. If you get sudden pain in your groin or in the testicle, it needs fixing that hour, or you risk losing the testicle. See your doctor

Torsion of the testicle is a condition in which the testicle twists upon itself. This can result in blockage of the blood flow to the testicle and ultimately, testicular death. The phenomenon usually is seen in boys up to age 16 years, however, it can also occur in adults. It presents with a sudden onset of excruciating testicular pain and if left untreated for more than eight hours, the testicle is usually permanently damaged. If a patient is seen within a few hours of the onset of pain then the testicle should can be surgically untwisted and fixed so that this will not happen again.

Torsion of a testicle is a condition in which the blood supply to the testicle is cut off. This occurs when a testicle twists on the spermatic cord. Torsion of a testicle is most likely to occur in boys around the time they reach puberty, but it may occur in younger and older males as well. Torsion of a testicle may occur for no apparent reason, even during sleep. It may also occur after strenuous physical activity. Symptoms of torsion of the testicle include:

    • Severe pain in the scrotum.
    • Nausea and vomiting.
    • Abdominal pain.

This condition needs to be corrected as soon as possible to restore normal blood flow. If left too long, the tissue of the testicle can die from lack of blood. Often emergency surgery is needed.
