Swedish massage is the one with which most people are familiar. Its flowing, kneading, and passive joint movements release tensions and promote general relaxation. It also stimulates nerve endings in the skin and connective tissue, increasing blood and lymph circulation.

Like all other massage therapies, you should only use Swedish massage as an add-on to any medical treatments you're already receiving for a specific condition. Never use massage as a substitute for your regular therapy. To find a qualified massage therapist, talk to your doctor and check with an integrated health center (many major medical centers now offer these). Also look online; there are national associations for massage therapists and they offer provider locator services.

Swedish massage is the most commonly offered massage. It uses firm but gentle pressure with the help of massage oil to relax and smooth out the muscles thus reducing tension.

It is important for the success of any type of massage that you communicate with the therapist. Let them know if you are feeling discomfort during the massage.  In addition, you need to let them know if you have any serious medical conditions or injuries.

Swedish massage is a type of hands-on touch, where the practitioner uses a system of long strokes, kneading, and friction techniques to massage the more superficial layers of the muscles. Swedish massage is combined with active and passive movements of the joints, and oil is usually used, which facilitates the stroking and kneading of the body, thereby stimulating metabolism and circulation. The therapist applies pressure and rubs the muscles in the same direction as the flow of blood returning to the heart. The many benefits of Swedish massage include increased relaxation, greater mobility of joints, decreased muscle tightness, and improved circulation. No matter what type of pain you have, this soothing massage will help you relax, and that can help anyone sleep better and enjoy improved mood. If you wish to use massage therapy, make sure you use a licensed therapist, if possible.

Swedish massage is the basis for most practitioners. It is described as smooth flowing strokes usually using oil. Strictly Swedish massage is also described as a relaxation massage. However, most therapists utilize Swedish techniques during sessions regardless of what type of massage therapy they are performing in order to relax the body.
