Dr. Arthur Perry answered:Prosthodontics is a branch of dentistry that deals with the replacement of teeth by removable and fixed dentures. The latest improvement is the use of a flexible material that replaces the ugly metal wires that hold partial dentures in place. The new material is tooth colored and snaps into place almost invisibly. The newer materials are lighter and thinner and stronger than their predecessors.
There is much less tooth removal with a veneer: a crown must shave down the existing tooth structure to adhere properly. If the tooth structure is significantly decayed or twisted out of shape, a crown is required to produce an aesthetically pleasing result.
Implants are titanium metal anchors screwed into the bone. Crowns are later fastened onto these anchors. The surrounding teeth do not need to be ground down. If multiple implants are placed, a removable denture may not be necessary.
