The prognosis depends on the specific subtype of congenital myasthenia, the muscles involved, and the age at onset of symptoms. If a child has difficulty breathing, feeding, or swallowing, he or she may be vulnerable to pneumonia or respiratory failure. In other cases, weakness is stable and does not worsen over time.
