Anna Tarleton Potter of Good In Bed answered:Plan B is an emergency-contraception pill available without a prescription to people over age 17. It works within 72 hours of unprotected sex, the sooner the better. It is a high dose of the hormones in birth-control pills to prevent pregnancy. It is commonly used in situations where a condom breaks or women forget to take regular birth-control pills. Plan B is not the same as an abortion pill, which causes miscarriage.
