Levaquin is a medicine classified under the fluoroquinolone antibiotic group. It is only available through a doctor’s prescription. Levaquin helps treat different kinds of bacterial infections throughout the body, but it does not treat viral infections, such as a cold or the flu. The main ingredient in Levaquin, Levofloxacin, heals bacterial infections by killing bacteria and inhibiting its growth.
