Fluzone is a brand name for the vaccine used to prevent infection by influenza virus. The vaccine is reformulated every year. It includes the most current problematic viral strains. Public health departments study new strains and recommend changes in the vaccine every year. Fluzone contains inactivated virus particles as antigens that stimulate your immune system to develop antibodies to the flu virus. It is preventative and will not treat active infections. You need to be revaccinated every year. The vaccine is usually given in the fall.

The Fluzone flu shot is a vaccine designed for seniors or people age 65 and older. It provides four times the viral proteins offered in the traditional flu vaccine, so it’s expected to trigger a more significant immune response in individuals who receive this flu shot.

Talk to your doctor about the pros and cons of this particular shot if you are considering it.
