Diclofenac topical gel is available with a prescription under the brand names Voltaren topical (diclofenac 1%)  and Solaraze (diclofenac 3%). Voltaren and Solaraze contain the analgesic (pain-killing) drug diclofenac, and are used to treat pain and inflammation due to osteoarthritis. Voltaren topical is used to treat pain in joints, including knees, ankles, feet, elbows, wrists and hands. Solaraze is used to treat actinic keratosis. These drugs may not work for treatment of pain in other joints or locations. Diclofenac belongs to a drug class called non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). NSAIDs reduce pain and inflammation by interfering with cellular signals at immune and pain-sensing cells. NSAIDs can pose serious cardiovascular and gastrointestinal health risks in some people.
