Your abdominal muscles may have separated during your pregnancy, causing a condition after pregnancy known as diastasis recti. This happens along the linea alba, which divides the abdominals into left and right halves. All the abdominal muscles attach here. Their ability to stabilize the spine is compromised when the linea alba is separated too far. Yes, this thin tendinous line can actually separate, creating a gap. The bigger the gap, the less tension and therefore stabilization will be generated by the abdominal muscles.
