Stacy Wiegman answered:Clonidine (Catapres) is a prescription drug used to treat high blood pressure. It is in the drug class called the "alpha agonists." It helps to relax the smooth muscle of blood vessels to decrease blood pressure and allow blood to flow more easily. It only controls high blood pressure and does not cure it.
It may be prescribed by many different physicians, but usually by cardiologists, family or internal medicine practitioners or other prescribing health care professionals.
