The aspergillus fungus can grow on dead leaves or in bird droppings, stored grain, compost stacks or other decaying vegetation.  Most people are exposed to aspergillus and do not have problems, but some people will have an allergic-type reaction to it, which results in bronchopulmonary aspergillosis.  It is more common in people with asthma or cystic fibrosis. Treatment usually includes prednisone and continuing asthma medications, if you are already on them.
