Stacy Wiegman answered:Argatroban is an anticoagulant; more specifically, a thrombin inhibitor. It prevents thrombin from exercising a normal effect on the process of blood clotting. It is used to treat thromboembolic disease. It also can be used during angioplasty to help open arteries. It is almost always delivered intravenously in a hospital or clinic, sometimes in combination with aspirin. Argatroban is available by prescription only.
