Amiloride hydrochloride is a medication that prevents your body’s levels of potassium from becoming too low. It is used to treat water retention and, when combined with other medications, high blood pressure. It works by decreasing the fluid in your body through increased urination. It is classified as a potassium-sparing diuretic and is sometimes referred to as a “water pill.” The original brand version - called Midamor - is no longer being made, but a generic version is available.
