Albuterol is a bronchodilator medication used to treat symptoms of asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Albuterol works by relaxing the airways in the lungs, which increases the flow of air and relieves breathing difficulties. It relieves symptoms, including coughing, shortness of breath, chest tightness and wheezing. Albuterol is available as a metered dose inhaler, an inhalation solution, a regular or extended release tablet or as a syrup.
