About one-fourth of people who have cataract surgery develop a secondary cataract. A secondary cataract results when the remainder of the lens left in the eye, which now holds the artificial lens, becomes blurry and causes vision problems. The condition is easily treatable by using a laser to make a small slit in the lens to let in light. In some cases, a secondary cataract may not develop for months or years after surgery.
