What increases my risk for pleural effusion?

Factors that increase risk for pleural effusion include congestive heart failure and inflammation of the pleura (tissues that line the lungs and chest cavity). Other risks include infections (like tuberculosis or pneumonia), lung cancer, injury, heart or liver failure, and blood clots in the lung"s blood vessels. Some drug interactions and breathing in asbestos fibers also increase risk.
