Risk for flint disease is greatly increased in those who spend a long time around stone dust, such as stone cutters, quarry workers, construction workers, and miners. Other workers who deal with silica-based materials, such as glass makers, foundry workers, sand blasters, and ceramics workers, are also at risk. Daily exposure to stone dust makes it much more likely that the number of particles in the body will be too much for the body's natural defenses.
