The biggest risk for flat warts is age, with children and young adults being most at risk. Because flat warts are caused by a virus, you can also be at greater risk for catching the virus - and consequently developing a wart - if you have a weakened immune system. You also have a greater risk of spreading your warts from one part of your body to another if you shave the area with warts. Shaving can move the virus to a new area.
