Women in the United States often think of menopause as requiring medical treatment, but menopause is not a disease. It is a normal, natural part of a woman's life. Occasionally, it involves problems for which you may explore self-help techniques, complementary or alternative treatments, or conventional health care.

It is important to remember that many signs and complaints of menopause are temporary. They usually last a few years. Enduring two years of hot flashes is different from experiencing them for the rest of our lives. Mood swings may seem less problematic if you remember that they will fade. Times of transition are often rocky, but as you move through them, you may gain a sense of balance and equilibrium.
