Recommended health screenings for men in their 20s include:
    • Physical exam. A standard medical examination typically includes some of the screening tests listed on the next pages that will help your doctor see if you currently have any health concerns or conditions. By looking at your family history, the information gathered during your physical exam, and the results of your lab work, your doctor can determine your risk for developing health conditions down the road. Based on this assessment, your doctor may suggest lifestyle changes, vaccinations, and other preventive measures to keep you healthy and safe.
    • Blood pressure screening. A normal blood pressure reading is less than 120/80. If you don't have a history of high blood pressure, your blood pressure should be checked every two years. If your blood pressure runs anywhere above 120 to 130 over 80 to 89 Hg, this is considered pre-hypertension. If you have pre-hypertension, or if you have diabetes, heart disease, or kidney disease, have your blood pressure checked every year. If you get your blood pressure checked at a local screening event or on an automated machine at a grocery store or pharmacy, call your doctor if the top number is over 130 or the bottom number is over 85.
    • Cholesterol screening. Your cholesterol should be checked if you use tobacco, are obese, have high blood pressure or diabetes, have had heart disease or blocked arteries, or if a family member had an early heart attack (before age 50 for men, before age 60 for women). Ask your doctor how frequently your cholesterol should be checked if you have any of these risk factors.
