There’s a variety of health resources available for people over age 65. Here are a few:

    •  The U.S. Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) offers guidance on choosing health insurance through brochures such as "Checkup on Health Insurance Choices" and "Choosing and Using a Health Plan."
    • The National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) can provide information about your state insurance department.
    • The American Association of Retired Persons (AARP) can help with AARP Health, a collection of health-related products, services, and insurance programs.
    • PACE is a Medicare and Medicaid program offered in many states that allows people who need nursing home level of care to remain in the community.
    • State Pharmacy Assistance Programs (SPAPs) can help you pay for prescription drugs based on financial need, age, or medical condition.

To find out about the SPAPs in your state and other health resources for people 65 and older, call your State Health Insurance Assistance Program (SHIP).

There are several health resources available for seniors including the U.S. Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) Guidance on choosing health insurance, such as "Checkup on Health Insurance Choices" and "Choosing and Using a Health Plan."   Also contact your State Health Insurance Assistance Program (SHIP).

For help with questions about buying insurance, choosing a health plan, buying a stand-alone prescription drug plan or Medigap policy and your rights and protection under Medicare. This program offers free counseling for decisions about Medicare coverage.  In some states, this program is called the Health Insurance Counseling and Advocacy Program (HICAP).
