    Dr. Mehmet Oz answered:

We all have microscopic cancer circulating in our bodies. To try and stop them from growing deadly, we need to cut off their blood supply, a process called anti-angiogenesis. Certain foods, particularly brightly colored fruits, contain substances with anti-angiogenic properties. Try eating an anti-cancer fruit salad made with papaya, blackberries and nutmeg at lunchtime every day. All three of these foods help prevent blood vessels from nourishing cancer cells.

In this video, Dr. Oz and gastroenterologist Robynne Chutkan, MD, explain why the color of food matters and reveal the foods that help most.

Although there are no specific foods that have been proven to help prevent colon cancer, it is recommended that you maintain a diet that is low in fat and high in fiber. Fruits, vegetables, and whole grains are the best foods you can eat to reduce your risk of colorectal cancer, as well as chronic diseases, such as diabetes.

    Penn Medicine answered:

While there are many factors that can put someone at risk for cancer, research has shown that certain foods can help prevent cancer. The American Institute of Cancer Research found compelling evidence that a diet high in fruit can lower lung cancer risk as much as 36% for nonsmokers. There is also some evidence that foods high in carotenoids such as sweet potatoes, spinach, kale and oranges may protect against cervical cancer. For ovarian cancer, evidence suggests consuming non-starchy vegetables such as asparagus, carrots and tomatoes may decrease risk. Finally, studies have shown that food containing phytochemicals have the potential to stimulate the immune system, slow the growth of cancer cells, and reduce the kind of inflammation that can cause cancer. Foods that contain phytochemicals include beans, berries, dark, leafy vegetables, grapes, flaxseed, garlic, soy, green tea, tomatoes, whole grains and cruciferous vegetables such as cabbage and cauliflower.
